I have been doing photography for the last 35 years.  In that time, I have discovered that the really interesting and special things I photograph are the things that touch me and in some way make me a better person.  The experience of working with nature photography, lighthouses, people, and weddings is as important as the work itself.  When everything comes together in a photo session, the photos produced reflect an underlying current of awe and wonder.

Wedding Photography
As a wedding photographer, my relationship with the couple is extremely important.  The bride and groom each have special qualities that need to be brought out in the photos. Wedding photography isn’t only documenting the ceremony and reception; it is more importantly about capturing the feelings, mood, and excitement that occur during this short period of time.  If you don’t see and catch the special wedding kisses, hugs, and looks, they are lost forever.  There are so many things going on at the same time in the wedding that the photographer must be very in tune with not only the process but the flow and spirit of the day.  At Kim Bennett Photography you will always receive the highest quality photos of your wedding.

I love doing weddings where I can get together with the bride and groom for a pre-wedding photo shoot.  For an hour or two there is just the couple and myself.  It becomes a very personal and precious experience as they enjoy that time together being photographed.  There is a very tender and sweet quality to those photos.

I work very hard to have a very fast turn around on these pre-wedding photos.  In most cases I can have 8X10 and 11X14 pre-wedding photos available for the reception. They can be framed and placed around the wedding cake and other areas.  I am able to do this because I do a lot of my own custom print work myself.  I also work with a top quality pro-lab that specializes in wedding photography.

Lighthouse Photography
Lighthouses have been around for hundreds of years in one form or another.  The most famous ones are those that guard the Atlantic Coast, more commonly known as the graveyard of the Atlantic.  The most famous is the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse.  This single lighthouse has saved thousands of lives from the treacherous waters of the Outer Banks of North Carolina.  In that area of the East Coast there are many equally interesting and picturesque lighthouses.  The trick when photographing something like lighthouses is to get a picture that is unique, beautiful, and captures the spirit of the light.  That usually means hiking around, sometimes dangerous places, to get the best view and lighting.  Most often the difference between an outstanding lighthouse photo and a mediocre one is the clouds and the lighting of the moment.

My wife and I have traveled thousands of miles visiting and photographing the lighthouses of the continental USA and Hawaii.  Until you start researching lighthouses, it is hard to believe the great number of lighthouses that guard our waterways.  Many of these lighthouses are still in use and have been converted to a more economical operation.   Unfortunately some of the great lighthouses are falling into ruin and abuse.  Many lighthouse organizations are buying, restoring, and saving these precious landmarks of our country.  I have a great respect and appreciation for those lighthouse keepers and their families who spent years in very difficult and harsh locations to man the lights that would save lives.  See these wonderful landmarks as seen through the eyes of Kim Bennett

I hope you enjoy the collection of lighthouse photos I have on my site.  I have broken them down into galleries by state and geographic area.  All of these photos are for sale. They make great calendars and beautiful additions to your home décor.

LDS Temples
To the LDS people temples are a sacred and holy place.  LDS temples are very diverse in their architecture.  In the last 10 years there has been a great increase in the number of LDS temples.  While many of the new smaller temples look very similar, they all are unique in their location and landscaping.  It is a challenging and humbling experience to capture the spirit and beauty of these temples.

I have placed the temple photographs into sub-galleries by state and region to make it easier to navigate them.  I hope you enjoy them.

Scenic Photography
As a child my father used to take my brothers and myself into the high mountains on summer weekends to go fishing.  From those earliest days, I found that I was filled and thrilled by the grand beauty of the mountains.  Later I was equally touched by the majestic canyons and colors of the southwest desert.  There is an indescribable beauty in this world we live in.  I am driven to try to capture little pieces of it in my photography.  When I capture what I feel when I look at the Grand Canyon, or the majestic waterfalls of Yosemite, or the spectacular sunsets over the desert, I know I have the photograph I want.  With Kim Bennett Photography, you will see beauty that is captured at one moment...and then gone, but always can be remembered through the photography.

It is not enough to look at and absorb the beauty of these places.  I want to be able to look at my photos and remember those peaceful breathtaking moments long after I have come home.  I find I need the solitude, the open space, the rejuvenating effect on my spirit that I get when I am in nature doing my scenic photography.

I hope you enjoy the scenic images I have been able to capture.  I also hope you can feel the peace, serenity, and beauty of nature in my photography.

Butterflies and Flowers
How could you love nature and not fall deeply in love with flowers and butterflies.  Very often, the flowers and butterflies are small and inconspicuous, yet one goes with the other.  I am drawn to the artistic beauty in the petals of flowers.  They seem to be the promise of a future to come.  From delicate pastels to brash almost violent color, flowers have it all.  My photography of flowers leans more to flower art, as I use light and color to create something you can hang on your walls and be uplifted every time you look at it.

My butterfly photography focuses on the color and individuality of butterflies.  They are challenging, exciting, and just plain fun to chase and photograph. Butterflies have the ability to make us feel just a little bit better and a little more care free when we watch them.   .

Again I hope you enjoy these images and choose to include some of the images for your home.
